Paul Dwyer – Group Managing Director
Paul commenced his insurance career in 1995 when he joined a regional based insurance broker in Victoria. It was a move to OAMPS in Canberra in 1996 as an Account Broker that gave him the opportunity to manage a large and diverse portfolio of clients.
Three years with CGU as the Area Manager for the ACT was an experience as an underwriter which was to prove invaluable in securing a position with OAMPS in 2002 as the National Affinity Manager.
As National Affinity Manager, Paul headed up the team that developed the Affinity area into the largest and most profitable segment within the company. Additionally, Paul worked closely with the acquisition team and was highly involved in the acquisition and integration of broking firms into the network building the financial and structural acumen now pivotal to the PSC Insurance Group. Following the sale of the company to Wesfarmers in 2006, Paul formed Professional Services Corporation (PSC) and purchased Tartakover Insurance Brokers in what would be the first of many acquisitions for the group.
6 years on by acquisition and organic growth, the PSC Group has developed into one of the largest and most diverse private insurance broking firms in Australia. His vision is to see PSC deliver exceptional value to its customers through the hard work, passion, innovation and commitment of our staff and executives.
As Group MD Paul’s focus is the strategic direction of the company, explore acquisition and organic growth opportunities and to encourage and inspire the staff at PSC to think laterally and innovate. Paul continues to drive the business ensuring that the finances and decision making are robust and in many ways without peer, in order to deliver the financial outcomes that we commit to.
Brian Austin – Chairman
Brian began his career at the Chamber of Manufactures Insurance in 1975 before moving to Edward Lumley & Sons (now Lumley Insurance) in 1977 as a Senior Underwriter. This was followed by a move to Sedgwick Insurance Brokers (now Marsh) managing the larger corporate accounts and various departments within the Sedgwick business.
In 1984 Brian and his brothers founded BRA Insurance Brokers which provided insurance broking services to major clients, including Cootes Transport Group, Linfox and Toll. He became a Director and major shareholder of OAMPS Limited in 1998 and was instrumental in setting the strategy of capital raising and acquisitions for the listed business. In 2002 Brian agreed to sell BRA Insurance Brokers to OAMPS.
Following the sale, Brian accepted the role of CEO of OAMPS from 2002-2006 in what had become the largest Australian owned Insurance Broker and the model for acquisitions which others have subsequently copied.
After the sale of OAMPS to Wesfarmers in 2006, Brian left the business in 2007. In 2009 Brian joined PSC Group as a shareholder and is currently the Board Chairman.
The executive positions Brian has held has enabled him to develop a global network of key relationships that allow the future growth strategies of the group to be pursued with much confidence.
John Dwyer – Director of Broking
With a background in agriculture, farming and transport John Dwyer moved into the insurance industry in 1978 with Stronghold Insurance before joining MMI (now Allianz) as an Account Executive in 1981.
In 1985 John was approached to join Mercantile Mutual (now QBE) and two years later became their youngest Regional Manager. In 1998 he left the company to start a joint venture between OAMPS and the Dwyer family.
In 2001 John sold personal interest in the business in exchange for shareholding in OAMPS and became Branch Manager of Wagga Wagga and Leeton offices. John accepted the role as Manager NSW Regional and ACT in 2006 and this role was expanded to Eastern Region Manager.
In 2009 John joined PSC as a shareholder and Director of Broking and brings specialist business integration and practical operational skills pivotal to a growing business.
John works collaboratively with Rohan Stewart on the operational imperatives across the group.
Rohan Stewart – Chief Executive Officer, Broking
Rohan has over 30 years experience in the insurance industry, working through the ranks of a range of insurance brokerages and underwriters in his stellar career. At each stage of his career, Rohan has excelled in improving business efficiencies and administration progressing through the ranks of Zurich International and Zurich Financial Services.
In 2004 Rohan joined Horsell International as Executive Director, utilising his impressive business experience to launch a retail broking business unit and roll out a robust business model for the group, capable of absorbing future acquisitions.
As Chief Executive Officer at PSC Insurance Broking, Rohan manages the day-to-day management of the Group including responsibility for key national insurer relationships. Rohan brings specialist business integration and practical operational experience to the group and works closely with John Dwyer on the operational imperatives across the group.
Corporate Partnerships
Tony Lumsden – Director, PSC Tartakover
Tony has over 30 years experience in the Insurance Industry starting his career with 9 years at a large Australian Insurer and the balance in Insurance Broking.
Prior to joining PSC Insurance Group he spent 16 years of his Insurance Broking career with OAMPS working in their Corporate Broking area where he was responsible for a portfolio of Medium to Large Corporate/Commercial accounts.
Tony built a large portfolio of clients with a high level of client service and the bulk of his clients having long standing relationships.
Scott Slingo – Director, PSC Newcastle
Scott Slingo has had extensive experience in the general insurance market. In his 18 years in the insurance profession Scott has worked for insurers and brokers holding a number of key roles.
Scott specialises in the commercial and corporate sectors. He has represented clients in key industries such as civil construction, general construction, construction professions, environmental, transport, tourism, hospitality and leisure, mining, manufacturing and international risk placements.
Scott is passionate about risk. He takes a holistic approach to business risk, working with his clients to identify and quantify risk and to design solutions to manage or transfer risk in the most cost effective way. He is creative in his approach using his vast experience to deliver the right solutions for his clients.
Scott is an Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance and is a Certified Insurance Professional.
Patrick Miller – Director, PSC Leonard Brown
Patrick has over 8 years experience in the Insurance & Finance Industry starting his career in Wagga Wagga in 2002.
Prior to joining PSC Insurance Group he spent 4 years of his Insurance Broking career with a national broker working in their Commercial Broking area where he was responsible for a portfolio of Medium to Large Commercial accounts throughout the ACT, Riverina and South West NSW.
In 2006 Patrick took up an offer to work in the Private Wealth Management division of Goldman Sachs JBWere, where he was involved in the management of wealth for high net worth individuals and large Not-For Profit organisations.
In early 2009 Patrick then took up an opportunity to move back into the family business of insurance and manage the Canberra operations of PSC. Pat has built a large portfolio of clients with a high level of client service and the bulk of his clients having long standing relationships.
Patrick also serves on a number of Boards including ACT & Sothern NSW Rugby Union (Brumbies Rugby) and Royals Rugby Union Club.
Mike Gunnion – Director, PSC Coastwide
Mike began his working career with AMP at the age of 18 and due to an impressive record was promoted to Area Manager four years later where he continued to climb up the management ranks before leaving to pursue his ambition of business ownership.
In 1998 he joined Coast Wide Insurance Brokers as a general and life insurance broker, bringing a considerable wealth of insurance expertise in a range of industries.
Mike specialises in insuring many of the high profile Clubs and Hotels on the Gold Coast.
Tony Walker – PSC Connect
Tony commenced his insurance career is New Zealand over 35 years ago with Royal Insurance.
On transfer to Sydney in 1990, Tony took up a NSW Regional role with responsibility for business development through six offices of Royal Insurance. In 2001 he joined Aon Insurance Brokers with national responsibility for the Real Estate and Hospitality industry sector.
Over the last 10 years he has built a lot of expertise in the Affinity space working with a number of insurers delivering insurance products and services for specific Industries, Associations and their members.
Tony is a Director of PSC Connect, having established the Company in March 2010 and working with appointed Authorised Representatives throughout Australia. He is enthusiastic and committed to supporting this growing sector of the market.
Stephen Fahey – Director, PSC Wright Fahey
Stephen has over 30 years insurance broking experience. Over this time he has gained an enormous amount of experience in delivering excellent client service and in the design and placement of complex insurance programs.
Stephen has been the principal service provider for many major Australian companies and is highly qualified in developing and managing global and local insurance solutions for a diverse group of industries including Mining Contractors, Plant and Equipment, Trucking, Wineries, and Property Developers to name just a few.
His capabilities have been recognised through his senior servicing roles with some of the world’s major broking houses. Stephen is passionate about developing cost-effective insurance solutions for his clients. His success in this area is demonstrated by the long standing loyalty of his clients.
Brian Wright – Director, PSC Wright Fahey
Brian has worked in insurance broking for over 35 years with the majority of this time being spent in senior client service and insurance negotiations and placement roles.
His continued success in identifying and understanding clients’ needs has long been acknowledged by his peers and clients alike, as has his ability to provide pragmatic advice which delivers cost-effective risk and insurance solutions.
Brian has had prime responsibility for placement of some of the largest insurance programs into global insurance markets for some of Australia’s leading Mining, Manufacturing, and Rural Services corporations as well as major Public Utilities, and the SA Government. In addition, he has had extensive experience in delivering high quality service to the Information and Communications Technology Industry and many other industries.
Bernie Shackcloth – Director, BM Insurance Brokers
Bernie commenced his insurance career in Hobart with AMP in 1995 before moving to Darwin in 1997 to join Wesfarmers. At Wesfarmers, he specialised in arranging insurances for pastoral and horticultural enterprises across the Top End of the NT.
His experience in NT caught the attention of Elders Insurance before joining OAMPS Insurance Brokers in 2002.
In 2007 Bernie started his own company: BM Insurance Brokers and became part of PSC Group in 2011. Bernie specialises in SME commercial insurances, in particular the Civil & Construction, Hospitality and Resource Sectors.
Bernie is an Associate of ANZIIF since 2003, a member of CCF (NT) since 2007 and President of RRS (NT) since 2007.
Andrew Clarke – Director, PSC Insurance Brokers (Wagga Wagga)
Andrew Clarke, a Director of the Wagga Wagga business has been working in the insurance industry since 1995. He began his career as an agent for Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance, now Vero, where he dealt with domestic insurances for the clients of Trust Bank Tasmania. In 2003, Andrew began his broking career as an agent for Elders Insurance Brokers and Elders Insurance Limited where his focus was rural insurance and SME business insurance. In 2005 Andrew was appointed the manager of the OAMPS Insurance Brokers office in Leeton. He managed the office for 5 years until 2010 when he started the Wagga Wagga business in partnership with PSC.
Neil Gray – Regional Manager, PSC McKenna Hampton Insurance Brokers
Neil has worked in the insurance industry for 35 years in Australia, UK, Europe and USA and held senior managerial positions with international and national insurance brokers for the past 14 years. Throughout he has continued to practice as an insurance broker providing cost effective insurance and risk management solutions to a wide variety of businesses and organisations.
Neil is a member of the NIBA Committee in Western Australia having served as Chair for two years. He has also held Board positions for two “not for profit” entities with a focus on Risk & Compliance.
Business Units/Operations
Chris Nitchov – Broking Director, Victorian Operations PSC Horsell
Chris has 15 years experience in the insurance broking industry and commenced his insurance career in 1995. During this time Chris has been involved in the strategic planning, placement and servicing of major corporate insurance programs.
Chris’ technical knowledge, meticulous attention to detail and excellent client service standards have earned him a loyal following of clients and close relationships with key underwriter markets.
Chris is passionate about working together with his clients to obtain an intimate understanding of their business operations. His dedication to identifying & analysing risk allows informed decision making of risk transfer measures and lays the foundation of a solid insurance program.
Chris is highly experienced in structuring and managing global and local insurance solutions for a diverse range of industries including Pharmaceutical & Bio Tech, Transport, Engineering & Manufacturing, Agriculture, Defence, Global Retail Brands and Property Developers to name just a few.
Chris joined PSC in 2003 and is currently responsible for leading the PSC Horsell Victorian Operation.
Shane Upton – General Manager, PSC Underwriting
Shane is charged with the brief to drive PSC Underwriting’s sales strategy and brand awareness and with the key objective to position PSC Underwriting as a market leader within the wholesale broking market.
With an extensive relationship management, underwriting and sales background working with global insurers in the SME/Commercial sectors, Shane is committed to achieving mutually beneficial boutique insurance solutions for our retail insurance brokers.
